Economic Development

Council is an enabler of economic development. It can do this through increasing the supply of housing and light industrial zoning in the district.
By encouraging private developersto bring jobs home – a double win as people can work closer to home and reduce emissions driving to work in Tauranga.

Achieved so far:
1) Western Bay of Plenty has a draft Regional Deal being negotiated with government now;
2) Rangiuru Industrial Park near Te Puke has its first sales (well done Quayside!);
3) Katikati Industrial Park structure plan updated to allow work to begin;

NOTE: achievements are always by the council as a team, not just me!

Next steps:
1) Use new government tools, such as Regional Deals, to raise economic growth;
2) Get work started on the Katikati Industrial Park to create local jobs;
3) Develop spatial plans for Katikati, Waihi Beach and Te Puna to ensure Western Bay is ready for the government's new planning rules;
