Localism
Empower the council, its committees and community boards to do their jobs. Delegate wherever we can so that each of our communities has more say in how council resources are allocated in their area; end the duplication of holding ward committees that overlap with community boards.
Achieved so far:
1) Opposed plans to merge Katikati, Waihi Beach and Maketu community board into larger boards. We lost at council but the decision was reversed on appeal;
2) Council to review delegations to community boards after the 2025 elections;
3) Ward committees disbanded and replaced by ward forums, which have developed into useful ways for locals to catch up on council projects and issues.
NOTE: achievements are always by the council as a team, not just me!
Next steps:
1) Ensure community boards are empowered to do their job through expanded delegations and a proper place in decision-making on issues and projects in their areas.
