Abbeyfield blessing this morning

Congratulations Carole and team on the blessing of Abbeyfield Katikati this morning. The first residents move in in a couple of weeks.

This is the 15th Abbeyfield community for the elderly around the country (with 10 more planned).

The concept is shared living. Everyone has their own room and share living/kitchen facilities, with the help of house staff.

A good sign of a healthy community is how we look after our young and our elderly members. Abbeyfield and the new council flats for the elderly are good signs that our community cares (along with existing facilities like Summerset, the RSA flats and Radius Lexham Park).

Carole and her team have done an awesome job - taking the Abbeyfield concept from a dream seven years ago to bricks and mortar now.

Huge thanks to our community too, for buying bricks, doors, jam, posts and many other fundraising items as they have come up for sale on the Abbeyfield journey!

Our Mana Whenua whanau led the blessing along with Rev Brendan Gibbs, who popped back to Katikati to join the ceremony.
