Fluoride update

Heads up to this media release from the council today regarding fluoridation of our public water supplies, which will start in coming weeks.

This is not something that council decided. It has been directed by the Ministry of Health.

Some people have serious concerns about the safety of this and councillors (particularly Andy Wichers) have worked tirelessly to get a proper review of the safety of fluoridation.

Others in the community support fluoridation so will no doubt be pleased.

I want more safety testing of this to ensure we are not harming the vulnerable in our community but we have run out of road on the issue.

Parliament has decreed the Ministry will decide, so it is being done.

At one stage it looked like fluoridation locally would not start till early next year (due to equipment delays) but these have been sorted out so we are back to the original timing.

Whatever your view of fluoridation, please don’t shoot the messenger! I am just passing this on in the public interest.

I’ve attached maps ahowing the affected areas.
