New Rescue Hub Starts in Bowentown

Great to witness the ground being broken today for Waihi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club’s new Bowentown Rescue Hub. This project has been five years in the making and should open in time for next summer.

It will sit alongside the Coastguard and campground, with the project also including an adjustment/upgrade of the BMX track to make room.

This is an important project for the community, with SLS going well beyond beach rescues to general first aid for visitors and cooperation with coastguard et al in search and rescue operations.

It is a long way from the SLS HQ at the North End of Waihi Beach if someone is in trouble in the water and the club needs to move gear to mount a rescue, so this will be lifesaving.

Well done Donna and her SLS team and a big Nga Mihi to Reon Tuanau and the local hapu for their blessings today.

Want to get involved? The board to Donna’s left in the second photo shows some of the sponsorship opportunities if you want to support the new rescue hub.
